How do I become a 4-H Volunteer ?

Are you ready to get involved?

  • 4-H cannot exist without volunteers like you.  Your desire to work with young people and influence their lives in a positive way is the first step toward becoming a 4-H volunteer.
  • Once deciding to volunteer you will want to talk to families in your community and determine if there are at least five children of 4-H age who are interested in joining a new club.
  • Next contact the Lake County 4-H Agent and make an appointment to discuss your plans and begin the application process.
  • Each new club leader must complete an application, provide  character references and agree to submit to a fingerprint criminal history check.
  • Once this is underway; prospective leaders attend a new volunteer orientation to prepare them for the role.
  • Volunteers continue to receive support and training in the form of workshops, monthly leader meetings and newsletters.
