Volunteering
| In order to provide safe, inclusive environments for all Florida 4-H Youth, the 4-H Program Development Committee has approved the implementation of a 4-H Volunteer Chaperone Certification that will be implemented this fall. Chaperones
need to be at least 21 years old, have completed a screening and
back-ground check, and have the recommendation of the agent. The
certification will require a minimum number of hours of face to
face and/or online training and will cover a variety of topics
such as roles and responsibilities, youth development, 4-H
events, risk management, and health/medical procedures. Your desire to work with young people and influence their lives in a positive way is the first step toward becoming a 4-H volunteer. Onc deciding to volunteer you will want to find a local club in your area. |
Your desire to work with young people and influence their lives in a positive way is the first step toward becoming a 4-H volunteer. Onc deciding to volunteer you will want to find a local club in your area.
- Once deciding to volunteer, you will want to talk to families in your community and determine if there are at least five children of 4-H age who are interested in joining a new club.
- Next, contact the Lake County 4-H Agent and make an appointment to discuss your plans and begin the application process.
- Each new club leader must complete an application, provide character references, and agree to submit to a fingerprint criminal history check.
- Once this is underway; prospective leaders attend a new volunteer orientation to prepare them for the role.
- Volunteers continue to receive
support and training in the form of workshops, monthly leader meetings
and newsletters.
All volunteers are encouraged to attend the monthly volunteer meetings.
